Non-Invasive Vascular Testing

How do I know if I need vascular testing?

Do any of these apply to you?

  • - I am over 50
  • - I have a history of smoking
  • - I have a history of hypertension
  • - I have a history of high cholesterol
  • - Heart disease runs in my family

If you checked answered YES to any of the above, then you need vascular testing. Early detection may prevent strokes or ruptured aneurysms. Sanger’s non-invasive vascular screenings— Aorta, Carotid and ABI (ankle brachial index) -- predict the degree of disability you might experience. The results will be delivered directly to your doctor, so you can discuss your treatment options.

Most patients referred to the Heineman Vascular Center will undergo non-invasive studies as part of their evaluation. The James H. Heineman Vascular Center provides patients with fully integrated services for vascular diagnosis. This includes an outpatient ambulatory vascular care center, and our non-invasive vascular laboratory.

The William W. Gainey Investiative Suite, a state-of-the-art angiography facility created within the Center, features an Integris angiography complex. The Center is close to the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute's operating rooms where all “open” vascular procedures are performed. This consolidation of services allows efficient delivery of both diagnostic and interventional procedures and an increased opportunity to coordinate the expertise of cardiovascular specialists with different backgrounds.

Our non-invasive vascular laboratory is accredited by ICAVL, the national accrediting board for non-invasive vascular laboratories. This accreditation requires an extremely high level of reliability and accuracy in all diagnoses.

Why should I choose Sanger’s vascular team?

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute offers the Charlotte region’s only horizontally integrated team of vascular specialists. This means that your treatment will be overseen by the complete range of vascular specialists, including cardiologists, vascular surgeons, and vascular interventionists working together.
